James Gascoigne Lynde (Jr) He was your great, great grandfather on the Lynde side.  He was Walter Lucas Lynde’s father and the earliest Lynde of whom I have a picture.  He was a Civil Engineer, born in Westminster 25th January 1816.  He married Susanna Weller on 16th June 1841 at St Margaret’s, Westminster.  He died on 15th March 1883. Walter Lucas Lynde was his 7th and youngest son.
Walter Lucas Lynde Was a surveyor, (your great grandfather), was born on 14th May 1856, and married Alice Rose Dobell on 8th April 1882.  He died on 21st January 1920, five years before I was born, so I have no personal memories of him.
This photograph is one of a series taken by James Henry Lynde during the procession in 1887 commemorating Queen Victoria’s 60 years on the throne.  There are 22 photographs in the album that James gave to his brother Walter Lucus in 1897 and which has been handed down to Doris.  The photographs are in remarkably good condition considering their age (105 years).  The full series of photographs are in a separate electronic album. This photograph shows Queen Victoria (under the sunshade) in her carriage with the Princess of Wales and Princess Christian sitting opposite her as the carriage is entering the Horse Guards Parade, Westminster.
