Eric Gascoigne Lynde
Eric Gascoigne Lynde
Walter Lucus and Alice Rose’s third and youngest son, born in 1885, was also a quantity surveyor. He had a great sense of humour
and loved playing practical jokes. He married Anastasia Johanna (Nora) Boyle, an Irish girl, on 8th October 1914. The first world
war had started and he was serving in the King Edward Horse Regiment. Having only a short 48 hours leave, he asked Nora to
meet him at Clapham Junction to get married. She had no time to buy a new dress or get flowers but as she passed a neighbour she
said she was going to get married and a child picked a bunch of flowers, nasturtiums, for her wedding. The ring was brought at
Clapham Junction that day. Sometime later Eric had to leave the army as he was injured at an embarkation port and he returned to
work as a quantity surveyor doing war work of national importance. They had a daughter, Emily Sylvia, born 6th April 1916 and a
son, Peter Gascoigne Dobell born 14th September 1922. Nora died in April 1970 in her 81st year after 56 happy years together.
Without her Eric was lonely, he decided to get married again and started to look for a suitable widowed lady, eventually choosing
Edith form a shortlist of six ladies. So, in 1971, at the age of 86 he married Edith who was his companion until his death in May
1980 in his 95 year. Edit died on 14th November 1996, a month before her 95 birthday.
